For the first time ever, I bought a used car sight unseen, mostly because I'm 1,500 kilometres north of New Westminster and the vehicle was for my daughter, who is in Prince George to attend UNBC. I saw a good price for a 2016 Subaru Impreza online and heard back from Key West Ford immediately when I inquired.
Peter Olson was very helpful answering questions about the car, Wes Upton arranged to have the Subaru delivered to Prince George and her trade-in picked up (after arranging to have winter tires/rims installed for me) and Gurj Khera made the financing application painless and the rate even came in below what I expected. Even the delivery driver was pleasant, apologizing when the delivery was later in the day than hoped for. The car comes with the 30 day/2,000 km exchange policy which is a plus in this situation, but my daughter's been driving "Salvatore the Subaru" for almost a week and has had no surprises. I'd like to express my thanks to everyone at Key West that was involved in this purchase - you kept every commitment, and made an experience that I was not looking forward to painless! People like you are the reason I would come back to Key West Ford in the future.

Last week at the Geneva International Motor Show, Nissan dropped the curtain on its newest concept vehicle – the IMx KURO. If this electric crossover looks familiar to you, it’s because it is – Nissan originally revealed the IMx at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show.
Since then, the automaker has made some exciting enhancements to the IMx KURO. This mighty machine now boasts an all-new look with black trim and wheels, an updated grille, and a new dark gray body color, which is generating a great deal of buzz.
But, more importantly, the IMx KURO is also providing consumers with a glimpse into Nissan Intelligent Mobility, which is the company's vision for changing how cars are powered, driven and integrated into society. According to Nissan, the concept vehicle is designed to strengthen the link between car and driver as a close, reliable partner that delivers a safer, more convenient and exciting drive.
The tech-inclusions in the IMx KURO reflect this viewpoint. For one, it features Brain to Vehicle (B2V) technology, which interprets signals from the driver’s mind to assist in maneuvering the IMx. The Kuro concept also builds on Nissan’s ProPILOT technology by offering fully autonomous operation. When in ProPILOT mode, the system stows the steering wheel inside the dash and reclines all seats, giving the driver more space to enjoy their commute.
Like all Nissan concept cars, the IMx KURO won’t be available for purchase. However, many of the concept’s cutting-edge technologies will make their way to the market for mass consumption. At the end of 2017, we shared news about one of Nissan's latest concepts called Easy Ride. Together with their partner, DeNA Company, Ltd., the innovators have been working tirelessly to launch a new robo-vehicle mobility service that uses autonomous driving technologies.
Well, it appears that Nissan and DeNA are getting closer to having their dream become a reality. Just last week, it was announced that field testing of the Easy Ride concept is set to begin on March 5, 2018, in Japan's Minatomirai district of Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture.
During the trial, participants will be able to travel in vehicles equipped with autonomous driving technologies along a set route, which runs 4.5 kilometers between Nissan's Global Headquarters and the Yokohama World Porters Shopping Center. Using a dedicated mobile app, participants will be able to input their desired activity using text or voice and choose from a list of recommended destinations. An in-car tablet will show selections of nearly 500 recommended places of interest and events within the vicinity, and provide exclusive money-saving coupons.
In return, participants must complete a survey about their overall user experience, thoughts about the content and coupon offerings, as well as preferred pricing for the Easy Ride service. Nissan and DeNA will then use these results to further develop the concept for additional field tests or launch time.
There's still no set date as to when Easy Ride will hit the global stage, but as news is released, we'll be sure to share more on our blog. We're just two months into 2018 and the all-new next-gen Nissan Leaf keeps raking in the hardware!
Last week at the Chicago Auto Show, it was announced that the best-selling EV in the world is now a winner of Kelley Blue Book's Five-Year Cost to Own Award in the electric vehicle category. For cost-conscious, enviro-aware Seattle area drivers, this is excellent news!
According to KBB, the Five-Year Cost to Own Awards honors new vehicles and brands with the lowest projected ownership costs, based on data for new cars for the initial five-years of ownership. It takes into consideration depreciation, expected fuel costs, finance and insurance fees, maintenance and repair costs, and state fees for all new models within that time period.
Redesigned for 2018, the Leaf now offers a 40% greater range than the original, as well as a more appealing exterior styling. It also incorporates Nissan's Intelligent Mobility suite, featuring technologies such as ProPILOT Assist, e-Pedal, Automatic Emergency Braking and more.
"Nissan Intelligent Mobility is about applying the latest technology to set a new benchmark for exciting and safe driving and the all-new Nissan Leaf delivers on that in every way," said Brian Maragno, Head of Nissan's EV Marketing and Sales Team. "In addition to the exhilarating drive, EVs are inherently less expensive to operate than gas-powered cars and the 2018 Nissan Leaf provides more range, content and technology at a lower MSRP than the previous generation, offering customers more value at a lower price."

Recently, Nissan unveiled its Xmotion concept car at the 2018 North American International Auto Show, receiving rave reviews from industry insiders and automotive enthusiasts alike. But, that's not all the Xmotion received - it was also awarded the EyesOn Award, which recognizes innovative use of colors, graphics and materials.
The Xmotion concept fuses Japanese culture and traditional craftsmanship with American-style utility and next-generation Intelligent Mobility technology. The exterior features a dynamic presence with an understated sculptural body, which includes flared fenders, U-shaped headlights, and a bold evolution of Nissan's signature V-motion grille. All of this is contrasted by the rugged metal-crafted wheels and all-terrain tire design.
Two colors were selected for use on the exterior - most notably is the silver pewter-like color, which is a metal traditionally found in Japanese fine art. This color flows beautifully with the dark black accents and red headlights, and showcases the various body shapes and contours found on the car.
Inside, the Xmotion's crafted interior design also pays homage to Nissan's roots with a Japanese landscape that incorporates advanced graphic user interfaces and autonomous driving technologies. The use of color was carefully considered in an effort to bring together tradition and modernity. Automotive enthusiasts are still talking about the virtual koi fish, which swims between the console and middle-mounted armrest touchscreen.
And while the Xmotion is not set to hit the production line anytime soon - or at all - it continues to highlight how Nissan is always on the cutting-edge of technology by bringing leading innovations to the masses.

The folks over at Nissan have been up to a little fun. This week, they unveiled how their semi-autonomous ProPilot Assist technology isn't just for cars.
Set in a traditional Japanese inn known as a ryokan, the automaker previewed self-parking slippers, tables and floor cushions much to the surprise of the hotel's visitors. As you can see in the video below, when these items are not in use, they automatically return to their designated spots with the push of the button. This is similar to how Nissan's ProPilot Assist is capable of using the steering, brakes, and throttle to maneuver a vehicle into a space without the brain power or physical input of a driver.
This isn't the first time that Nissan has applied their technology to inanimate objects. Just last year, they innovated an autonomous chair to help alleviate the strain of waiting in line. When the person at the front of the line stands up to be served, the now-vacant chair moves to the back of the line, so another person can sit down and wait in the queue. Imagine having these chairs at the DMV? Talk about a game-changer!

Yesterday, Nissan unveiled a brand new concept vehicle at the 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, called the Xmotion (pronounced “cross-motion”). And just 24 hours later, the six-passenger three-row crossover SUV is already receiving rave reviews for its sleek exterior lines and sharp angles, as well as its unique interior, which blends touchscreen displays, innovative control mechanisms, and a futuristic look that’s clean, modern, and expressive.
According to Nissan, the Xmotion concept fuses Japanese culture and traditional craftsmanship with American-styling and next-generation Intelligent Mobility technology. The exterior features a dynamic presence with an understated sculptural body, which includes prominently flared fenders, wedge-shaped headlights, and a bold evolution of Nissan’s iconic V-motion grille. It’s an expression of dramatic simplicity, which is wonderfully contrasted by the rugged metal-crafted wheels and all-terrain tire design. Some automotive journalists have likened the concept vehicle to that of a futuristic version of the cult-classic Nissan Xterra, which they claim is a good thing.
And while the exterior of the Xmotion is incredibly interesting, the interior of this concept vehicle is what’s truly astounding. Inside, it features a crafted design that pays homage to Nissan’s roots by combining a symbolic representation of a Japanese landscape with an advanced user interface and autonomous driving technologies.
This includes a digital assistant that’s personified as a virtual koi fish on the in-car displays. It swims between the console and a middle-mounted armrest touchscreen, and can intelligently program interior cabin conditions based on the destination and user preferences. The virtual koi also assists the Xmotion when in autonomous mode, providing key information about the current route and potential slowdowns, while also handling driving duties.
As for what’s under the hood, Nissan didn’t specify powertrain specs since the Xmotion is an expression of design and technology, versus power and performance. And seeing that it is a concept vehicle, it isn’t intended for production, however, many industry watchers expect that the Xmotion's design cues may find their way to future Nissan SUVs, like the rumored Xterra. Time will be the judge of that.

The 2018 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) kicks off tomorrow in Detroit with The Gallery. This exclusive event gives attendees an up-close look at the most exquisite and acclaimed collection of automobiles in the world, totaling $10 million.
In preparation for the 2018 NAIAS, Nissan has released a subtle teaser, which is generating a great deal of buzz. Speculation is growing amongst industry insiders as many wonder if Nissan will be unveiling an autonomous concept car at the motor show.
The 42-second video features modernistic artwork, which demonstrates how Nissan is using tradition to bridge to the future of mobility. The message is rather cryptic, but automotive watchers have suggested that the automaker is hinting at an upcoming concept car that combines Nissan’s familiar design cues with all-new self-driving safety technologies.

At the recent 2018 Consumer Electronics Show, the automaker also showcased its “Brain-to-Vehicle” autonomous technology, which uses brainpower to perform maneuvers quicker than the human body can react.

Last year, Nissan created a stir at the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show by debuting a custom Rogue decked out like an X-Wing for the launch of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
This year, Nissan is at it again, but this time they turned to the dark side for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which opens nationwide on December 15. And instead of one vehicle, Nissan unveiled seven Star Wars-themed concept vehicles. The Force is definitely strong at the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show!
The lineup of Nissansincludes the Rogue, Rogue Sport, Altima, Maxima and Titan. Each vehicle showcases its own distinctive design, which was created in collaboration between Lucasfilm and Vehicle Effects – a California-based company best-known for their custom cars in the latest Fast and Furious movies.

This week, Nissan Motor Company, Ltd. and DeNA Company, Ltd. unveiled their new robo-vehicle mobility service dubbed Easy Ride. The two companies began developing the innovative autonomous driving technology in January 2017 and have plans for public field testing in March 2018 in Japan’s Minatomirai district of Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture.
